Open Educational Resources

You may have already seen the current call for Open Educational Resources which is a joint JISC/Higher Education Academy initiative aiming to open up electronic content.

The total fund for these pilot projects is over £4.5 million divided as follows

  1. Institutional strand: £1.5 million (up to £250k per project)
  2. Individual strand: £200k (up to £20k per project)
  3. Subject strand: £3 million (up to £250k per project)

As it is HEFCE money, only English institutions can bid under the institutional and individual strands, however, a Subject strand bid from a Subject Centre can have partners throughout the UK.

The submission deadline is 4 March 2009, projects start in April 2009 and should be completed by April 2010.

The Health Sciences and Practice Subject Centre intends to submit a Subject bid and would be happy to hear your ideas as to what might be helpful to consider. Initially we are having discussions in the area of Public Health, however we are happy to consider other ideas at this stage

  • Would you like to collaborate with us any way?
  • Do you have ideas about what needs to be done?
  • Do you have electronic content you wish to share?
  • What work is required in order to make your content open?
  • Has your Institution agreed to open up content?

If you are planning to be a part of an institutional bid or are submitting an individual bid and would like a Subject Centre letter of support please contact Kwansuree.jiamton@kcl.ac.uk.  We would also be happy to discuss collaboration on your proposal.

Kwansuree Jiamton will be attending the community briefing event at Aston University on 26 January where bidding to these funds is to be clarified
