Student Essay Award 2010 - Deadline for submission: 5th April 2010

Win an Ipod touch!

The Higher Education Academy Subject Centre for Health Sciences & Practice is offering students the chance to submit their thoughts and experiences in an essay of around 1000 words with the following title:

How have sustainability issues had an impact on your learning experience as a student?

The winner will receive an iPod Touch plus all expenses paid attendance at the Higher Education Academy's annual conference in June 2010 in Hertfordshire. All shortlisted entries will be published on the Subject Centre's nationally recognised website. The second and third placed essays will receive cash prizes of £150 and £100 respectively.

Deadline for submission:
5th April 2010

Criteria

  • demonstrate breadth and depth in your understanding of sustainability and education for sustainable development
  • relate sustainability to your experience of being a student and suggest ways in which your learning could be made more sustainable
  • be sensitive to cultural, contextual and institutional differences
  • be of sufficient quality to be exposed to a national audience (well structured, accurate use of grammar, spelling, punctuation and style)
  • provide an individual and honest account
  • as far as you can, see things from others’ viewpoints and provide potentially perceptive observations and helpful ideas for teaching staff
  • not exceed the 1000 word limit
  • be submitted by email in Microsoft Word format


Competition rules:

  • You must be a student on a health sciences and practice degree course (undergraduate or postgraduate).
  • Your entry must be your own work.
  • Only one entry per student is allowed.
  • The judges’ decision is final.
  • Your entry must be submitted on or before Monday 5 April 2010.
