Interprofessional Education in Wales: case studies in health and social care - July 2010
It is with great pleasure that the Subject Centre launches another collection of case studies
exploring the opportunities and challenges of introducing and maintaining interprofessional learning in Higher Education.
In April 2008 HEA Wales, EIPEN and the HSAP, MEDEV and SWAP subject centres funded a conference to support and showcase IPE in health and social care education in Wales. Hosted by Cardiff University, the conference drew a breadth of presenters and participants including representatives from the Welsh Assembly Government, the Welsh Health Care Students’ Forum, and Professor Hugh Barr to name just a few.
This new publication draws together some of the work showcased that day and has been brought up-to-date with a broad range of contemporary case studies from across the Principality. Readers familiar with IPE will recognise many of the challenges for the teams introducing interprofessional learning. The intention in this collection is not to provide models of best practice or ‘how to do’ interprofessional education, but contextualised examples with critical reflection on the planning and implementation to enhance transferability and future development.

This publication, which we hope will provide a catalyst for future IPE discussion. We see this collection as the first edition and sincerely hope that, as readers, you will feel able to contribute some of your own initiatives and embedded practices when this first edition is updated.
