Departmental Workshops, NEW DEADLINE: 5th January 2011. 19-20th January & 5-6th May 2011.

Need time to think through and plan a development or change?

The extended deadline for applications is 5th January 2011.

Applications are invited from teams of 4 members of staff from University Departments, Schools or other Organisational Units within the Health Sciences and Practice disciplines to attend workshops designed to facilitate an aspect of organisational change or development related to learning and teaching.
Successful applicants will work as a team, together with teams from a number of other institutions, in developing, planning and implementing a new learning and teaching initiative, or one that is in need of attention.

To apply for a place, please complete the Application FormFile Type - Doc(440KB).

Structure

The process will consist of a two-day workshop including facilitated activities designed to help prepare a detailed action plan followed by two to four months for the first phase of implementation, followed by a further two-day workshop to review and develop further action plans to ensure successful completion of the intended development.

In the intervening months between workshops the teams will be partnered with one of the other departmental teams for support and challenge as the process of implementation begins.

Workshop Focus

The chosen focus of your development programme is flexible, but must have an emphasis on learning and teaching.  Previous departments have focused on the areas below. However this list should not constrain you, please specify your chosen focus on the application form:

  • Assessment
  • Developing practice education for students
  • Education for Sustainable Development
  • Enhancing learning through technology
  • Interprofessional education
  • Involving Service-users and Carers in education
  • Student engagement including the National Student Survey

This series of workshops is offered free to successful applicants.  Institutions will be expected to cover the cost of travel and overnight accommodation on each of the two-day sessions. The evening of the first day on each set of workshops is spent together.

Successful Departments will also be required to pass on the lessons learnt to others after the end of the programme. The Subject Centre will provide appropriate opportunities and support for this to be effective, both during the programme and following completion.

Important information for all applicants:

The teams of 3 – 5 members of staff within Departments, Faculties or Schools must include the Head of Department or someone who has equivalent organisational responsibility for implementing change.  Every member of the team is expected to attend all four days of the workshops.

The first two-day workshop will be Thursday 19th – Friday 20th January  and the follow-up workshops will be held on the Thursday 5th – Friday 6th May 2011. Should these dates be inconvenient, please contact us to discuss other dates that are planned for 2012.

The extended deadline for applications is 5th January 2011.

Please submit applications to info-hsap@kcl.ac.uk or contact Margaret Sills, Director: margaret.sills@kcl.ac.uk to have an informal discussion before submitting an application.
