This free conference, will explore some of the many different ways that Destinations® – the new online career learning resource from CCMS- is being used by universities and colleges in the UK and the Republic of Ireland. It will be held on the 25th of March 2009 at the University of Reading. The event will start at 10.00 and end by 3.15.
Developing a community of career educators – How the Destinations® career learning resource is being used across the British Isles

This free conference, will explore some of the many different ways that Destinations® – the new online career learning resource from CCMS- is being used by universities and colleges in the UK and the Republic of Ireland. It will be held on the 25th of March 2009 at the University of Reading. The event will start at 10.00 and end by 3.15.

Destinations® is a comprehensive web-based teaching and learning resource. It features over 300 video clips, 450 pages of information (which are reusable learning objects), interactive activities and teaching materials. Institutions can edit the site to fit their local needs. Since its launch in summer 07 it has been acquired by 37 universities and colleges.

The event will show-case practical examples of innovative practice and explain how Destinations® can be used with different VLEs to deliver accredited careers education as well as workshops and individual support for clients.

It will be relevant to

• Careers advisors and academics involved in delivering careers education, employability or PDP as part of the curriculum or co-curricula
• Staff wanting to a have a comprehensive suite of careers information and advice to support individual work with students
• Institutions that are considering buying the Destinations® package
• Institutions that are already using Destinations®

The event offers the opportunity to

• Talk to CCMS Fellows who have piloted Destinations in 7 HEIs
• Gain an overview of the diverse ways in which Destinations® is being customised by users
• Study in-depth examples of good practice through workshops
• Examine generic T&L issues as they impact on careers education
• Gain fresh ideas on how to deliver career learning
• Join the Destinations® Community – a user group that exchanges ideas, free materials and advice 

Outline programme:

• Deidre Hughes – Founding Director of iCeGS at the University of Derby will provide the key note address.
• Workshops will include sessions from the University of Reading’s Careers Advisory Service and at least 3 other HEIs.
• Damian McGivern -Head of Career Development Centre at the University of Ulster- will be one of the members of the expert panel.
