Over the last two months JISC Collections has been running workshops up and down the country looking at the state of the e-books market, asking librarians what their vision for the future of e-textbooks is and thinking about how we can all, libraries, publishers and JISC Collections get there. Well having heard the librarians’ point of view, we decided that it would be a good idea to hear from publishers as well. On the 14th April JISC Collections will be holding the National E-textbook Debate to let both sides air the arguments in an open and informal setting. So if you would like to come and join the live audience, please complete the online registration form. This event will be part of the National E-books Observatory Project and JISC ‘Libraries of the Future’ programme. The aim of the event is to allow librarians and publishers to openly debate the future role of the library in the delivery of e-textbooks. As you all know, it is not a simple clear cut process and finding models that work for everyone won’t happen over night (!) but I hope that this event will everyone to ask some quite direct questions and to hear all sides defend their positions.
Medication 'Matters': A One Day Symposium on the Management of Medication in Mental Health Jun 11, 2008 12:00 University of Central Lancashire, Preston,
Pharmacological interventions in mental health have had a profound effect since their introduction. Despite debates about the efficacy of antipsychotic medication however it forms the mainstay of secondary care mental health treatment, and is especially important in patient mental health settings. It is not solely a mechanistic task to be performed but requires well developed therapeutic and decision making skills and the exercise of professional judgement. This one day symposium provided an opportunity to hear presentations from respected UK researchers and practitioners in the field as well as the results of smaller scale research and innovations in concurrent sessions. Hosted by the University of Central Lancashire it also offered networking opportunities for delegates from the UK.
