Ethics

Health professionals frequently face and have to solve ethical dilemmas in contemporary clinical practice. Learning and teaching ethics,  therefore, is an important aspect for students undertaking health programmes leading to professional registration, and in continuing professional development for qualified and experienced practitioners.

Relevant issues in learning and teaching ethics include:

  • What are the most effective learning and teaching methods?
  • What subjects should be taught?
  • Should ethics be taught in discrete modules or integrated into practice based modules?
  • Is there a consensus of what is morally acceptable behaviour for health professionals?
  • Should ethics be a focus for inter-professional education or are issues profession specific?
